S1W12 - Oregon NOW One Win Away from North Title After Historic Performance Against Utah

Edit: after a miscalculation, Oregon's North Title can be truly clinched with one more victory in conference play
EUGENE, OR. - Well it is official everyone, #2 Oregon will need one more win represent the Pac-12 North in the 2013 Pac-12 Championship. The Ducks need just two wins in their final three games to do it, and now they just need one more game to clinch the North title for the second time in three years. Tonight's win in the snow came in utterly dominant fashion against Utah, as the Ducks routed the Utes 58-8.

The real story of the day was the Oregon defense. Utah earned 17 rushing yards, 144 passing yards, and threw 7 interceptions. A single game record for the Oregon defense, the seven picks also pushed Oregon's turnover ratio to #1 in the country at the moment. There was a point in the game where Oregon was out gaining Utah 175+ yards to 0. With the score at 49-0 at the half, there was little offensive action in the second half. Unfortunately the Ducks lost the shutout on a Hail-Mary play with no time remaining in the 4th quarter. All-Conference Cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu had 3 interceptions, a school record for individual single game interceptions.

On offense, it was all about efficiency. Marcus Mariota was deadly, going 8-8 with 5 TDs and 260 yards. Mariota also posted an absolutely rediculous 579.2 Passer Rating for the game. We'll have to see where this performance pushes him in the postseason award races. De'Anthony Thomas rounded out the attack with 98 yards and a touchdown. Each of Oregon's starting receivers (Lowe, Huff, Kelly, Hawkins, and Lyerla) scored a touchdown, further promoting the theme of efficiency and balance from this Oregon offense.

As mentioned before, the Pac-12 North title is just the first step to this season. If Oregon wants to truly keep its elite status, they'll need to win all three of its remaining games yet again. Game 1 will be quite a challenge, as the Ducks head into the hostile 'Zona Zoo to face a hot Arizona squad itching to knock the Ducks out of the national title race.

Thanks man. And I'm very concerned for my trip to Tucson- I know just how much that win would mean for the Cats, as they themselves are trying to keep in the Pac-12 title race. Going to need to come out with everything clicking to beat Arizona.
