Now That's More Like It (Week 2) Empty Now That's More Like It (Week 2)

Boulder, Colorado - After starting the season with a win, The Colorado Buffaloes turned their attention towards the little known team known as the FCS Midwest.  Arthur Dayne had this to say, " A win in the Rocky Mountain Showdown is a great start to a promising season.....but I did not accept this job for a just a great start.  Many teams in the Pac 12 conference have great starts, but what I want is a great finish."  He went on to say that Freshman QB Shane Dillon, who had a less than stellar first half against CSU last week, would now have his chance to distinguish himself in the eyes of Buffaloes' fans and flash whatever greatness head coach Dayne glimpsed in him.

The game opened with FCS Midwest winning the coin flip and electing to kick.  After a short kick off return,  freshman quarterback Shane Dillon led the Buffaloes offense into the game with an extensive field to work with.  His decision making was nothing less than superb as he drove the offense down the field while seeming almost unstoppable. The opening drive ended with a three yard touchdown pass to fullback Alex Wood.  Dillon did not miss a single pass and was well protected by his offensive line who seemed to provide more than enough time to find the open receivers.  Junior running back Christian Powell seemed to have trouble finding the open holes in the defensive line as he was held to an average of three yards per carry throughout the first half.  Even if the running game of the Buffaloes was being slowed, the FCS Midwest could not find an answer for Shane Dillon as he went on to throw for two more touchdowns in the second quarter connecting with Tight end Vincent Hobbs for one and Wide receiver Paul Richardson for the other on a 34 yard pass that could not of been thrown better by the great John Elway.

The first half was also where the defense of the Buffaloes imposed the bend but don't break method as they as allowed the agitated FCS Midwest QB to complete one or two yard passes, but would allow no yards after the catch.  The visiting QB then tried to find someone downfield, but he made the mistake of falling back to far and was in his own end zone with three Defensive linemen bull rushing towards him.  The Midwest QB was crushed by Defensive tackle Juda Parker for his first safety of his career. That was the exclamation mark on a half that was dominated by The Colorado Buffaloes who went into halftime leading 23 - 0.

Halftime came and went and both teams took the their respective sides of the field.  Colorado kicked the ball off the second half began.  The third quarter was much the same as the first two quarters.  The Defense of the Buffaloes held strong and kept the FCS Midwest on their side of the 50 yard mark.  DT Nate Bonsu accumulated four sacks total in the game, but one of the lesser known stars stole the show.  True freshman middle linebacker Addison Gilliam seemed to be everywhere at once as he picked off two passes for his first pair of interceptions in his college career as well as helped keep the FCS Midwest run game in disrepair.

The Buffaloes offense kept on moving forward behind the arm of Shane Dillon as he threw another pair of touchdown passes in the third quarter.  Wide receiver Richardson could not be forced to drop a pass as he made tough catch after touch catch for his young quarterback.  Richardson was soon well over 100 yards for the game.  As the game in the air opened up, so did the run game of the Buffaloes.  After a few 10+ yard gaining runs, Powell was beyond 100 yards for the game and ended with 113 yards and one touchdown.  Shane Dillon ended his spectacular game 15 for 21 and throwing for 195 yards along with five touchdowns to his one interception.  The icing on top was his tying of a school record with his 5 passing touchdowns.

Next week the Buffaloes face up against The Fresno State Bulldogs at Folsom Field.  Support our Colorado Buffaloes and let's show up in force and sell out this stadium!  This is your numero uno reporter signing off, and remember to save me a victory Coors!
