What Happened to our Cougars?..
Wazzu fans can get use to this!


Los Angeles, Ca - The coach voted week 2 game of the week didn't disappoint, An instant classic took place in the city of angels last night. After coming off a huge, draining upset over the Auburn Tigers in Jordan Hare Stadium last saturday the cougars had another monumental upset opportunity yesterday and they capitalized! While the rest of the conference has been playing cup cakes and mid-majors Wazzu played possibly the toughest first 2 game schedule in the country as they went on the road to play NFL/College hot spots and beat them in their tough houses. You barely recognize this Washington State team, they are in 2002 Rose Bowl form. Enough of the high and mighty report lets get into the details.

Washington State defense noticed one thing while watching film, and that was the run the ball alot, but when they throw, they only throw to Marqise Lee. In week 1 USC threw the ball at Lee 18 out of their 25 dropbacks. He caught 16 for 206 yards and 2TD's. In week 2 however Waazzu came prepared and shut him down the best they could holding him to 5 catches 73 yards 1 Td. Now those are by no means bad numbers, however WSU came up with 7 INT's 6 of which were Wittek forcing the ball to Lee. While Washington State threw for 4TD's and 514 yards. Backup Apodaca got some reps as Starter Halliday went down in 3rd quarter with back spasms and sat out til the 4th. Apodaca tossed 5 times completing 4 of them and 2 TD's!!! needless to say he came in and took care of business. The Washington State Defense shut out USC in 2nd half which was much needed since wazzu was down 28-10 at half time. When Halliday threw an INT with just under two minutes left in the red zone it looked bleak! But for the second straight week D.Monroe came up big with and INT giving the ball back to washington State with under a minute to play. Coach Leach and OC LaxRoxTopher felt the momentum and went big on the first play connecting with Vincent Mayle for an 89 yard Touchdown catch. The Defense held for final seconds and wazzu walked away with another HUGE win.  Player of the game could go to either Apodaca for coming in cold but starting the comeback or V.Mayle for his 7 catches and 294 yards and two TD's. But it has to go to the entire defense for a 2nd half shutout and 7 takeaways!

Washington State gets a break next week as they come back home to pullman and take on Southern Utah. as coach lax said " It feels like it has been forever since we have been in pullman and it couldn't come at a better time." Rest asure it's been a busy two weeks for wazzu but they can't sit back and relax to much, they still have a game on saturday, FCS or not they need to be prepared but we can match last seasons win total and be halfway to bowl eligibility all in first 3 games. Pullman is ready for them and excited, they can't disappoint. The Cougar spirit is buzzing around town and people are READY to support this team. See you next week , Go Cougs!
