Week 7 Recap OSU @ Washington State Empty Week 7 Recap OSU @ Washington State

Pullman, WA- The (2-3) Oregon State Beavers traveled to Pullman this week to take on the Washington State Cougars (4-2). This game became an offensive shootout until the final seconds. Both teams had over 400 yards passing but the ground game could not do much. WSU came out with a bang and scored a touchdown after an opening drive interception by Cody Vaz. Vaz did not look sharp in this game, throwing 5 INTs in this game. The Beavers quickly answered WSU by tying the scored on their next drive. WSU responded again scoring on their next drive, but the Beavers owned WSU in the second quarter, chalking up 21 points. WSU missed a critical field goal just before the end of the half. The Beavers led 21-14 at halftime.

Nothing really happened in the third quarter except for a WSU field goal. There were a lot on turnovers though. WSU scored 2 very quick touchdowns early in the 4th quarter giving them a 31-21 lead with 5 minutes to go. Oregon State was in trouble of losing this game, but they made a statement on their next drive by scoring a late touchdown to keep it close. The Beavers defense had been terrible the whole game but came up with a HUGE stop and WSU was forced to punt with only 2 min left to play. Cody Vaz threw a **** to Richard Mullaney for 68 yards for a touchdown! The Beaver had regained the lead! WSU had to score on their final drive. The Beavers defense went to sleep as WSU slowly marched down the field taking a lot of time. They put it into the endzone and regained the lead with only 25 seconds left. It would take a miracle for OSU to come back. Vaz led the Beavers to the 45 yard line with 12 seconds left and 1 timeout. They could throw a quick pass, call a timeout and then kick the field goal and send it to overtime, but Vaz threw his 5th interception the next play and WSU survived to win their 5th game of the season, putting the Beavers to (2-4).

The turnovers hurt the Beavers and likely cost them the game, the OSU defense should have intercepted Halliday's passes more. The Beavers lost another heart breaker and are wondering if they will even make it to a bowl game. The Beavers head to Berkeley next week to take on the #23 California Golden Bears. The schedule for the Beavers is VERY tough 5 of their last 6 games are against ranked opponents. It does not get any easier for the Beavers. They must win at least 4 more games to make it to a bowl game. The conference championship is out of the talk now.
